Build a Strong Foundation With Residual Income

What is ‘residual’ income? It is income where you make a
sale one time and it generates income on a regular basis
going forward. Residual income can even be earned on
multiple levels. For example if you refer someone to an
affiliate program, you make a commission for a percentage of
the initial sale. In the future when your customer pays
their membership fees for the program each month, you earn a
percentage of that as a commission. With
‘multi-level-marketing’ you may also receive a percentage
of the commissions when your customer makes sales of their
own.

So the idea is that you have income that continues to
generate as a result of that initial sale for as long as
your customer remains active in the program. This would
also be true if you were directly selling a service, for as
long as your customer continues to use the service.

Usually if you are selling products directly, these are
considered ‘one-time-only’ commissions, as you earn money
only one time when the purchase is made. Nothing wrong with
this but it does take much more work to build and sustain
your momentum to keep those one-time sales coming in on a
regular basis.

It is a good idea to have a combination of sales types and
the money all adds up to represent a substantial income.
However it does seem like a brighter idea to have residual
income – just in the way it is more efficient to plant
‘perennials’ that bloom every season after they are
planted once, than it is to have ‘annuals’ that you must
replant every year.

It’s fun that the plant analogy really does work so well
when discussing residual income too – because for example
when you have a perennial plant it will not only bloom each
year in the same place, but the wind will carry the seeds
and the plant may pop up in many different places.

With residual income it is the same in that you have
contacted the initial customer who then contacts others, who
contact others and before you know it you have built an
‘organization’ just from that one initial action that you
took by ‘planting the seed’.

Internet marketing and in fact marketing in any industry is
about generating lots of volume with your efforts. This is
because the majority of people will not be interested and
will not respond. It is a bit like the proverbial ‘needle
in a haystack’ in that you must weed through all the people
who won’t be interested to find the few that will.

Actually there are many that will respond over time – but
just as a percentage of the human population on earth, only
a few (million) are interested in starting a home business
or working from home. Remember as well that it is believed
that people do not usually respond to an ad the first time
they see it. It is approximately the 5th or 6th time. This
is another reason to always keep the volume of your
advertising turned up to the max. This week someone may not
be interested – but things are always changing and maybe
next week they will change their mind and respond to your
ad!

Benefits of Being an Internet Affiliate Marketer

There are actually many benefits of being an affiliate
member of an Internet program. One of the primary benefits
when you are new to Internet marketing, is the fact that the
program handles the customer service for your prospects and
applicants.

All you really need to do as an affiliate is marketing and
advertising; and then eventually to collect your
commissions. The program will handle any questions the
prospect might have pre-sale, perhaps to determine the
suitability or some issue that may be stopping them from
joining. As well, during the application process there can
be problems or issues that need to be resolved before the
person can proceed.

Internet marketing is not exactly like ‘network marketing’
where there is necessarily phone or other personal contact
with prospects or even customers – it may be only an
impersonal email that you sent out to a list of addresses
that has piqued the person’s interest and now they are
doing some research with the links you provided. Usually
only if a person replies to the email and asks you to phone
them would you have any reason to call them (and then you
should, as soon as possible, or at least respond to their
email right away if they live in a foreign country or it
would be a call with long-distance charges).

Some people would naturally feel uncomfortable making claims
or answering questions when they are new themselves – and
again this is where the program is thankfully in the
driver’s seat. Feel free to refer anyone who inquires
about the program directly to the program’s customer
service link or helpdesk. This is always best unless you
are really experienced with that program and/or Internet
marketing in general if applicable.

When you are writing content for your blog, article, or
other advertising, you definitely shouldn’t lie or say that
you have had achievements that you have not had time to
reach yet. You can definitely, however, refer to those
people that have. Being able to quote an expert, and even to
share proof, such as a link to an income statement or other
published statistics gives what you are saying much more
power than just an opinion.

Another valuable benefit of being an affiliate is that the
affiliate program provides images and graphics that you can
use, such as banners, sales pages, squeeze pages, and
content (messages, etc). You can save a ton of money and/or
maybe years of time you would have to spend to create those
yourself. This is not to even mention how difficult it
would be for you to create your own product or service to
sell.

The affiliate program has paid for everything and they are
willing to share it with you in exchange for your membership
fees as well as the advertising you will do to promote them.
It’s a great arrangement for everyone concerned, so don’t
begrudge them, because you are getting a good deal and if
you merely apply yourself the same as you would with a job,
it is possible for your to earn a good income.

Of course if you have goals that include creating your own
program and product you can work toward that while you gain
experience and skill as an affiliate and perhaps earn some
operating money for your dream business if you are able to
save it rather than spend it right now.

Why Do You Want to Start a Home Business?

Most people likely would just say they want to start a home
business to make money. To what degree depends on the
individual circumstances. It could be extra money to pay
bills because the regular paycheck is not ‘stretching’ as
far as necessary. It could be extra money for some special
thing like a vacation or a new car for example. It could be
extra money to create some savings or investments for
retirement or a ‘safety net’.

Money could be needed more critically if someone has lost
their job and has been unable to find another one, and need
to replace their salary. This is the scenario where they
would be better off if they had started something part-time
that they could capitalize on where ‘spare time’ is all
they have right now! It is important to plan for the
unexpected just like we should do for earthquakes or
hurricanes, etc. Once the emergency hits, it is a little
late to prepare.

Although when we are doing well and don’t think we have any
problems it is normal to not worry, if somebody reads the
news for the past few decades they should realize that
‘only by the grace of God go I’ is a real, true statement.
It could happen to anyone. Don’t get complacent because
you know you do your best to do a good job, and often ‘go
the extra mile’ to exceed expectations;that is no insurance
at all. When companies make decisions to eliminate jobs, it
is positions that they are looking at, not people. Be
prepared. Save your money, start building something on your
own to increase your security. Do it now before it is
critical.

There are blogs and other social network communications from
people who call themselves the ‘used to haves’ – these are
people who used to have good jobs and enjoyed a good salary
and all the things you can buy; they are people who are
educated and skilled. Yet they lost everything through no
fault of their own. They lost their jobs and their salary
because their company merely wanted to make more money and
so they moved their operations ‘overseas’ where they do
not have minimum wage laws or taxes. The ‘used to haves’
are now struggling to pay their bills, have no prospects for
jobs and are every day becoming more and more depressed and
deeper in the hole.

It is therefore surprising that more of them to do not
arrive at the possibility of starting a business online from
home. They do have for the most part education and skills –
they must know how to do quite a few things that could be
ways to earn money from home. Of course many are willing to
make less money or work longer or just to do anything out of
desperation. Another option they have is to apply at
temporary agencies to get assignments that can just help to
tide them over until they find permanent work.

Yes, for the most part wanting to start a business from home
is mostly about money – but there is a lot more to it as far
as feeling strong and feeling good about yourself because
you are doing more than what is expected – because you
always feel you can accomplish more, and because you are
going to be prepared for the unexpected (and if it never
comes you will find something to do with a nice chunk of
money you have saved!)
